CODE 9 in Christchurch specialises in monitoring alarms for commercial and residential customers. Since it was established in 2002, this niche company has thrived, winning market share from larger security companies because of its unique offer and superior service.

From a marketing perspective, it was a challenge to explain exactly what Code 9 did, especially since the service was new and intangible. So when the company needed a new website, external support from a professional marketer and copywriter Robin Major Marketing was engaged to write content that would increase sales, word of mouth promotion and be easy to find on Google and other search engines.

"We needed to revamp our website and made 20 starts and got nowhere. It was too big a project. We didn't have the internal resources, confidence, time and experience. It needed someone who had the right skills--a wordsmith who could come in and gain a feel for who we are as a company and what we were looking to achieve then present something to us as a starting point.

"Robin did just that and most importantly gave us the stimulus to want to continue to get to the end of the project. She took on board all our changes and drew them together and presented it collectively. From there our team worked together to refine what we'd come up with.

"We tend to be quite wordy and use the same words everyone else uses. Because Robin knew nothing about our company she was able to ask questions a typical customer might ask and that we hadn't thought of and use words our customers could relate to.

"Our new website is now live and I would venture to say if Robin hadn't been involved we would still be in the same position we were months ago with 20 starts in a file gathering dust.

"There are plenty of people around who know how to lay out a website but the content is very light and information doesn't portray what they do.  Thanks to Robin and an outside the square design from Sam of RedK, I am satisfied our website now really reflects who we are and what we do as a company."
