Media Release Writing + Award Application |
When Lincoln University's entomology museum was awarded funds to upgrade the storage units for its bug collection, Robin Major Marketing was asked to generate media coverage about this news.
At first glance it seemed to be a no go. Dusty old bugs...storage cabinets...Boring with a capital B right? No! The way I pitched this story saw it appear on national TV, radio and print. Lincoln enjoyed
a flurry of publicity including:

TV1 Breakfast Show |
| >> |
North & South magazine |
| >> |
National Radio 'Nine til Noon' show |
| >> |
The Press |
"Congratulations on the entomology story, Robin. It has really taken off. Bugs with wings, eh! We're delighted. Well done."
Ian Collins, Inhouse Journalist
To further promote the organisation, Lincoln University self publishes two magazines--Outlook and The Research Profile. These publications contain stories ranging from 1000-2500 word feature articles through to 250-600 word snapshots. The shelf life of some of
these stories is extended by recycling them into media releases or granting permission for the stories to be republished in other publications.
"I valued the fact that from a short brief and a list of contacts Robin was able to just get on with the job with very little input from me. I found her to be excellent to work with and I know that the staff she interviewed for the stories also really enjoyed
talking with her. She has a fantastic ability to take very scientific topics and turn them into stories which are readable and interesting to a lay person. She was very quick to move stories through the approval process and deliver on deadlines. I would not
hesitate to employ Robin Major for future projects and I would high recommend her to other organisations."
Anna Jemmett, Publications Officer
So when the University's longstanding Kellogg rural leadership program was an education provider finalist in the Vero Excellence in Business Support Awards Robin Major Marketing was engaged to complete the extensive entry form.
"I appreciated the work Robin did on the application. As we had our hands full actually delivering the program when the application was due, it was well worthwhile having outside help. Being fresh to the program, Robin was also able to see things that perhaps
we took for granted but in fact were important. That external perspective was invaluable."
